Designer Lied To Parker About 'Third-hand Dress'

Sarah Jessica Parker is fuming after she was tricked into wearing a third-hand dress to the New York premiere of Sex And The City: The Movie. Designer Olivier Theyskens assured the actress no one had worn or been photographed in the Nina Ricci gown before she slipped into it for the star-studded bash at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall last week . She only later discovered Lindsay Lohan wore the same dress for a high-profile photo shoot for Harpers Bazaar magazine last year , and socialite Lauren Santo Domingo showed it off to photographers at the Costume Institute Gala in New York just last month . And Parker is upset by her treatment: "In the big picture, this is not important, but there is a relationship between the entertainment industry and fashion. We've watched sales dwindle and we've watched people be less inclined to spend money on clothes. "Look, my affection for the dress hasn't changed, but what they did was so short-sighted. It's just unethical and disappointing that they would allow the dress to be worn again." She adds of Theyskens, "I just wish it had been handled differently and they had been straight about it."

Kaiser Chiefs: 'Just like Leeds United we're going up'

Kaiser Chiefs have claimed that their gig this weekend (May 24) at Leeds United's Elland Road stadium will secure the band's place in history making them the first hometown band to perform at the city's home football ground.

The five-piece have revealed that they are likely to lose money by staging the 37,000-capacity gig which also features The Enemy, Kate Nash, The Young Knives and Friendly Fires - but are ploughing on with the "special" show regardless.

The band told NME.COM that they initially planned to play at the stadium in 2007, but because the gig took so long to organise plans didn't materialise until this year.

Drummer Nick Hodgson said that the hometown show was a huge deal for the band and not just because of the number of people who will attend. "It's massive because it's Elland Road, not because of the size," he said.

"Just like Leeds United [who may be promoted from the League One play-off final a day after the gig (May 24)] we are going up a division," added singer Ricky Wilson. "We're going up to be a stadium band."

Guitarist Whitey said that the Kaiser Chiefs were likely to lose money by staging the gigs, so associates had advised them against playing the huge show.

"We're doing it because we want to," added bassist Simon Rix.

When asked what surprises the band had planned for the show, they revealed that they had a fitting football theme lined up for the day's entertainment although the idea of having huge footballs bouncing around the crowd had to be scrapped because they cost 1,900 each.

"We're going to have programmes like football programmes, though," said Hodgson, while Whitey added: "And we've booked the date deliberately we've made sure that it won't clash with the play-off final!"

NME.COM will be bringing you unique, unrivalled access of the Kaiser Chiefs'giant homecoming. In fact the only way you'll get any closer to the Elland Road gig is by being in the band, so make sure you're here on Saturday (May 24) from 3pm (BST), plus get next week's issue of NME on newsstands from May 28 for a special souvenir edition.

Malcolm Middleton , Sleight of Heart

Malcolm Middleton , Sleight of Heart

MALCOLM Thomas Middleton Sleight of Heart (Wax Time Spare-time activity)Annunciate Military rating: * * * * Verdict: Glasgow poet-singer non quite as dour as beforeHis previous album, 2007's A Brighter Beat opened with the birdcall We're All Sledding to Die, offered up Death Lovemaking Natural depression Love Death along the way and then closed with another feel-good number Cheer Down. So to conclude that Malcolm Middleton has cheered up close to on this one - his second solo set since the 2006 dying of his indie-folk outfit Arab Strap - isn't locution much. Simply if this mini-album, an branch of A Brighter Beat with half a dozen originals and troika covers (including Madonna's Stay), isn't quite a as dour as its predecessor, it distillery offers more or less brilliantly bleak, dry-witted accounts of bodoni font life. And does it with a beguiling minimum of pother on songs that ar generally based about Middleton's broad accent of a vocalizing voice and his robust finger-picked guitar. He's at his bitter topper when he's sulking near staying-in existence the new going-out on Blue Plastic Bags, or contemplating what sounds like a wildcat want of self-esteem on Total Belief.

Simply having dispensed with that The Virgin track, as comfortably as ones by King Creosote, he ultimately offers up his bruised heart in the celastrus scandens love birdsong Hey You to last. Grim but captivating.Malcolm Thomas Middleton plays at the Kings Weaponry on Monday
